For Moms

The breast augmentation procedure allows moms to regain a sexier, more youthful figure after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Pregnancy can affect women in different ways; some women find that the size of their breasts have decreased after pregnancy, others experience some breast laxity. Dallas plastic surgeon Paul Pin can create a more feminine appearance with the placement of breast implants and breast lift surgery. Modern breast augmentation and lifting techniques allow surgeons to tailor each procedure to the patient and achieve more natural results than ever before. Breast Augmentation after Pregnancy – Surgical Options

Any woman who makes the decision to undergo breast augmentation surgery has a number of surgical options available to her. These include:

Breast Lift

The effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause the breasts to droop. Breast lift surgery is designed to lift the breast and nipple, and tighten surrounding skin to produce a more balanced, taut appearance. However, in cases of mild breast laxity, implants will provide enough lift for the patient. Dr. Pin will let you know if a breast lift is appropriate for you during your breast augmentation consultation.

Breast Implant Size

Selecting implant size can be one of the trickiest parts of the consultative process. To make it easier on our patients, Dr. Pin encourages women to search online for breast augmentation before and after photos to find surgical outcomes that they like. This gives Dr. Pin a better idea of your expectations and size preferences. Patients can also try on different implant sizes at our office so they can get a better idea of what they will look like post surgery.

Silicone vs. Saline Implants

Saline and silicone implants both have their own pros and cons. Saline implants can be filled after they are inserted into the breast, requiring a smaller incision. Saline implants are also less expensive and it is more obvious when they rupture. However, silicone implants look and feel more natural than saline implants – especially in thin women.

Incisional Technique and Placement

Breast implants can be inserted via an incision made around the nipple, in the crease of the breast, or in the armpit. They can then be placed either over or under the chest muscle. Dr. Pin will go over the benefits associated with each incisional approach and placement technique at the time of your breast augmentation consultation.

Breast Implants and Breastfeeding

Some women who undergo mommy makeover procedures may decide to get pregnant again in the future. In the vast majority of cases, placement of breast implants will not interfere with a woman’s ability to breastfeed. The incisions that are made during surgery do not affect the ducts used during the breastfeeding process.
